Using annotated corpora for syntactic research on Dutch

Frank Van Eynde

Thanks to the CGN project and the STEVIN program we have large scale high quality resources for Dutch with well documented annotations at various levels of analysis. Besides, there are user friendly and efficient tools to explore these resources.

The resulting environment creates new possibilities for data-rich investigations of Dutch syntax. By now this has led to a (growing) number of publications on Dutch syntax which exploit these resources. More comprehensive treatments, though, as in the ANS and the multi-volume Syntax of Dutch, do not make use of any of these resources.

The aim of the talk is to present a survey of what has already been accomplished in the area during the first decades of this century and to make a proposal on how this might be scaled up to a more comprehensive data-rich investigation of Dutch syntax.
